Is it possible to design a keychain that not only resembles a bicycle, but even looks like a miniature replica of it? So faithfully rendered that at first glance it can be mistaken for a collector's model? That was exactly the goal of this project - to create a realistic, durable and functional miniature of the MEVO bicycle, which was to become a unique promotional gadget.
In this post, we show the behind-the-scenes of the realization - from visualization, through the selection of the appropriate technology and material, to the production of the finished keyrings.
For whom was this project created?
It was commissioned by the Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area, an institution responsible for supporting the development of the Tri-City and its surroundings as a modern, livable space. One of the pillars of this strategy is the MEVO urban bicycle system - the largest and most technologically advanced project of its kind in Poland.
Already in its first year of operation, MEVO has gained immense popularity: nearly 400,000 residents have used the bicycles, covering nearly 10 million kilometers together. This is a real contribution to greener transportation and improved quality of life in the region.
What were the client's expectations?
Our task was to design and manufacture 1,000 keychains in the shape of a bicycle, which were to be a unique souvenir to celebrate the first birthday of the MEVO system. The client wanted the keychains to be not only visually appealing, but also durable, full of detail and appropriately related to the design of MEVO bicycles.
The key fobs were to replicate the distinctive look of MEVO bicycles: intense red color, black elements and precise details such as spokes, fender and basket. In addition, the keychains were to include personalization elements, such as the client's logo and the name of the event. The maximum size of the keychain was set at 7 cm in length and 5 cm in height.
The client stressed that the key fobs could not be made of plastic or rubber, which directed our attention to two possible materials - hard and lightweight resin or metal. We decided on metal because it allowed us to best capture the details of the bicycle's design, while providing durability and resistance to heavy use.
The design required a precise approach to ensure that every detail was faithfully reproduced and that the keychain best captured the look of the MEVO bicycle.
Why did the client choose DECARD for this project?
The choice of DECARD as a contractor was not accidental. The customer chose us because of our unique production method, which allows for precise reproduction of even the smallest details. Thanks to advanced cutting and machining technology, we are able to create intricate parts that faithfully reflect the character of the MEVO bicycle.
Our technology ensures the highest quality workmanship, while maintaining all the details of the design - which was crucial in this case. The attention to detail and precision we offer gave the client the confidence that the keychain would be exactly as they imagined it.
How did the implementation of the project proceed?
The design began with 3D visualizations, which were regularly consulted with the client at every stage. Our goal was to make sure that the keychain would best reflect the character of the MEVO bike, while meeting all aesthetic and functional requirements. The client wanted a spatial effect, but due to technological limitations, we could not make it fully 3D.
As a result, we opted for metal as a manufacturing material, which allowed us to achieve the desired effect. The initial version of the design contained too many cutouts, which proved problematic to implement. Therefore, we had to simplify the design somewhat, which was consulted and accepted by the client.
For the production of key rings, we chose metal, which we cut using the laser method. Thanks to this technology, we were able to reproduce the details accurately, maintaining precision in every smallest element. Given that the keychain contained a lot of detail and was relatively thin, we prepared a prototype, which we sent to the client for approval.
After the customer positively verified the design, we were able to proceed with the entire order. In addition, we applied a graphic with a spatial texture on the surface of the key ring, which made some elements of the bike - such as the wheels and frame - slightly convex. This gave the keychain a unique texture and a more realistic look.

The end result - what does the finished keychain look like?
Upon completion of production, the key fobs fully met the customer's expectations. Thanks to precise workmanship and attention to detail, each keychain was a miniature of the MEVO bicycle, preserving its distinctive appearance. The customer was delighted with the quality, and users who received the keychains as souvenirs were eager to take them away, enjoying the unique, durable gadget.
The keychain not only made a great promotional item, but also attracted attention with its detailed design, which was both aesthetically pleasing and functional. Thanks to its material, the keychain is resistant to damage, making it an ideal item for everyday use.
