Not just a promotional product. Our takeaways from the Marketing Festival and PIAP Connect & Knowledge 2026
2026-10-07The keychain is just a few centimeters in size. Yet it can fit more than a dozen small details - wheels, spokes, the engine, the motorcycle’s distinctive lines, helmet, colors and logo.
It’s on a small format like this that you can really see what UV printing can do. For the Stal Gorzów project, our goal was not only to reproduce the graphic, but to preserve its most important details and make full use of the entire keychain surface.
A few centimeters, yet surprisingly many details
How do you transfer a complex design onto just a few centimeters? With personalised keychains, the starting point is often an existing brand design - a logo, illustration, character, product or distinctive motif. When that design is reduced to just a few centimeters, you can’t simply scale it down like a regular graphic.
Some elements become too small, while others start to blend together. Certain details need to be simplified, while the most important ones can be emphasised with raised elements, colour or different surface levels. See what’s possible with custom promotional keychains.
For the Stal Gorzów project, we wanted to preserve the distinctive elements of the motorcycle and helmet. Despite the small surface area, the keychain features raised spokes, the engine, wheels and the motorcycle’s characteristic lines.
The key was not only to reproduce these elements, but also to keep them clear and recognisable. With such a small product, every element needs its place - so that even after scaling down the design, it is still clear what it represents.
This is where the difference begins between simply transferring a graphic onto a promotional product and designing it specifically for a particular format.
That’s exactly what clients look for in more demanding projects: not just reproducing a graphic, but translating its character into a small format without losing the most important details.
Micro-details you only notice in motion
With this type of promotional product, a photo often doesn’t show the full effect. Only when you turn the keychain and change the angle of the light do the different surface levels, raised elements and the finish become visible. The gloss is particularly noticeable at these angles. Reflected light further emphasises the 3D effect and helps bring out the small, slightly raised elements that might simply disappear in a flat photograph.
That’s why, when preparing materials for projects like these, we also show the product in motion. Rotation, close-ups and changing light reveal much more than a single static photo. You can see it in the video below.
A keychain should look good from every angle
With a small promotional product, it’s easy to focus on the front and treat the back or edges as secondary. We approach the keychain as a complete product - which is why we design every part of its surface.
For the Stal Gorzów project, we made use of every side of the keychain:
- front - full-colour glossy graphic,
- back - recessed logo and decorative pattern,
- edges - raised 3D patterns.
This is especially important for products that are looked at, held in the hand and carried every day. Every side can be another place for a detail, colour or element of brand identity.
We don’t leave any surface unused. We design the keychain so that the result looks good from every angle.
What does this mean for you as a customer?
Do you have a ready-made graphic, but you’re not sure whether it can be transferred onto a keychain without losing its details?
With more demanding projects, it’s worth looking beyond the price or minimum order quantity and focusing first on the manufacturer’s capabilities and how the design is prepared.
A good manufacturer should be able to advise you on:
- which elements are worth keeping,
- which can be safely simplified,
- which details would work well as raised or recessed elements,
- how to use colour,
- how to finish the surface,
- and how to make use of the back and edges of the product as well.
This way, a small promotional product doesn’t have to be simply a scaled-down version of a larger graphic. It can become a well-designed, dimensional product that retains the character of the brand despite its small format.
At DECARD, we manufacture personalised keychains in Poland using 3D printing. This allows us to work with multiple colours, reproduce micro-details and create dimensional elements. Find out more on our page dedicated to DECARD’s production technology.
As a result, we can produce more demanding designs for companies, advertising agencies, sports clubs and event organisers.
Have a detailed design? Send it our way
Not sure whether all the elements can be preserved at such a small size? Send us your design, logo or even just your idea. We’ll check how it can be transferred onto a keychain and which details are worth highlighting with raised elements.
